Cholesterol Levels in Kids are Dropping for First Time in 20 Years

Finally some good news about cholesterol and kids: A big government study shows that in the last decade, the proportion of children who have high cholesterol has fallen.

Some experts were a little surprised by the new study's results. High cholesterol is often linked to obesity, and the childhood obesity rate hasn't budged.

But they have a theory: The cholesterol-raising trans fat content of many foods has declined in the last decade, and that may have been the cause.

The study by government researchers was released online Tuesday by the Journal of the American Medical Association.
