Andrew Skipper, design and lifestyle expert offers four simple tips to transform the look of your home with little or no money.
Clean it up. While this solution sounds too simple to be effective, nothing changes the look of a home like de-cluttering.
Paint. Many people say that painting is the easiest and most cost-effective way to freshen up a room. It's definitely an inexpensive option, but not always the easiest, especially if you're not a professional painter. With all the prep work, including taping, moving furniture and laying drop cloths, it can be a disruptive project. But if you've got an open weekend, it's a great way to get a different look for not a ton of money.
Pretend you're moving. This makes you look at things in a different way. If you look at an item in your home and think "that's not something I'd take with me if I were moving," then it's time to toss it or donate it. Make sure each thing in your home has a purpose and meaning to you.
Rearrange furniture. This goes beyond moving your couch to a different wall. Consider mixing up furniture sets to different rooms. For example, night stands become living room end tables and vice versa. It's a simple way to give you a different look and break up a matchy-matchy suite that can sometimes get a little boring.
