Island View Dental FAQ

Q: I have a very busy schedule what is a "one" visit crown?
A: Cutting-edge innovations in dental instruments are requiring less time in the dental chair, causing less discomfort and creating satisfying results. One breakthrough instrument, called CEREC, allows dentist to quickly, and economically, restore damaged teeth in a single appointment using a high-quality ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.
Q: What can be done about my ugly, old silver fillings?
A: You may want to replace an old or worn silver filling with a natural-looking white restoration. A white filling is bonded to your tooth, making it stronger than if we used silver. The bonding agent can insulate your tooth from extremes of hot and cold and when we use a white filling we don't have to remove as much of the original tooth. Some visits can be done in just one visit.
Q: When should I start brushing my child teeth?
A: Oral care can begin even as an infant. Babies' gums and teeth can be gently cleaned with special infant toothbrushes that fit over your finger. Water is suitable in lieu of toothpaste (because the baby may swallow the toothpaste). Parents are advised to avoid fluoride toothpastes on children under the age of 2.
Q: I'm scared at the dentist office - What should I do?
A: Patient comfort is one of our specialties. To ease any anxiety we offer Nitrous Oxide, oral sedation, heated back massagers, blankets, iPods, and televisions. We do our best to ensure that our patients are comfortable, relaxed and yes, even enjoy their appointments.
Q: My child's teeth are not straight. Can you help?
A: Yes. Orthodontics is a field of dentistry that deals with corrections involving jaw and teeth alignment. Braces are applied to teeth for various reasons, including poorly aligned jaws, crooked, crowded and missing teeth, or a bad bite.
