Riverview Hospital - Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Center FAQ
Q: What is a chronic wound?
We consider a wound to be chronic, or nonhealing, if it has not healed in 30 days or more. Many people suffer for weeks, months or even years with wounds that won’t heal. At Riverview Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center, we give hope to patients with nonhealing wounds by using our evidence-based, systematic approach. Even if you have had your wound for several years, we can offer hope.
Q: What type of wounds do you treat?
- Diabetic ulcers
- Neuropathic ulcers
- Pressure ulcers
- Ischemic ulcers
- Venous insufficiency
- Traumatic wounds
- Surgical wounds
- Other chronic, nonhealing wounds
Q: What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO) is a medical treatment that increases the amount of oxygen in a patient’s blood, allowing oxygen to pass more easily through the plasma into the wounds to heal them. HBO chambers surround patients with 100 percent oxygen at higher than normal atmospheric pressure.
Our HBO chambers feature a reclining bed inside a clear acrylic window. During treatment, the patient may listen to music, watch movies or watch TV. The only physical sensation the patient notices is a slight pressure in the ears, similar to what is felt when an airplane lands.
Q: What other wound healing therapies do you offer?
Some of the other advanced therapies we offer include:
- Specialized wound dressings
- Compression therapy
- Bio-engineered skin grafting
- Edema management
- Noninvasive vascular assessments
Q: How do I make an appointment?
