Dr. Susan Mueller

Dr. Mueller is a native of scenic northwest New Jersey. After graduating from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania with a Biology degree, she worked for a large pharmaceutical company as a microbiologist. After realizing that research was not her calling, she returned to school to become an optometrist. Dr. Mueller graduated from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia in 1989. She then completed a residency in ocular disease at Lyons Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in New Jersey in 1990.

Dr. Mueller and her husband, Bill, moved to Charlottesville in 1990 for Bill to pursue a Master’s degree in landscape architecture at University of Virginia. Dr. Mueller worked for two years in Staunton, then joined Dr. Clark and Covert in practice in 1992. Dr. Mueller and her husband have two daughters. She currently works part-time in the office and full-time at home where she homeschools her children.

Dr. Mueller believes in using the gifts and talents given to her for the benefit of others. She performs eye exams free of cost for patients referred from the Charlottesville Free Clinic and Vision USA. She volunteers with Remote Area Medical (RAM) and makes an annual trek to Wise County for a three-day medical mission where the vision clinic performs free exams for up to two thousand patients from surrounding states. Dr. Mueller also greatly enjoys her time working in a family practice where she can help patients of all ages with their varying visual needs, in addition to keeping up with her interest of diagnosing and treating ocular disease.
