Our Passion is to help Eastern Iowans receive the dental treatment they deserve.
We focus on the branch of dentistry concerned with the morphology, physiology, and pathology of the nerves inside the teeth and mouth. Our practice encompasses the basic biology of these dental nerves in providing accurate diagnosis, prevention, and treatment when infection is present. We help patients save their teeth with root canals, provide professional consultations, and see patients with emergency dental needs.
We are the only endodontic office in Eastern Iowa that is solely owned and operated by a Board-Certified Endodontist. We provide the highest quality of care with modern equipment and the latest technology.
Our expert team, led by Dr. Derek T. Peek, a Board-Certified Endodontist, includes an experienced and caring staff. Our goal is to provide the highest standard of care in a calm and comfortable environment. We will listen to your concerns and answer your questions prior to the start of any treatment. Your dentist referred you to us, and with that honor comes the responsibility to deliver exceptional service and compassion.
Today, dental insurance can limit a patient’s access to care with specialists. Here at Eastern Iowa Endodontics ®, we accept all major dental insurance plans. We also participate with and take patients covered by the state funded insurances (Medicaid, DWP, and MCNA). Dr. Derek T. Peek and Dr. Thomas L. Peek are the only endodontists in the state of Iowa seeing these patients who need root canals.
Root Canal - Endodontic procedures treat the inside of the tooth. Dr. Peek explains it to be very similar to a filling, just a little longer.
Root Canal Retreatments - Canals may need to be retreated because the initial treatment wasn’t successful, or because a new problem has emerged. Letting Dr. Peek diagnose your case and explain its probable outcome will give you comfort in understanding what is going on.
Endodontic Surgery - Sometimes doing a root canal through your tooth just isn’t the right treatment option. During endodontic surgery, Dr. Peek removes the actual root tip and associated infection around your tooth.
Understanding Cracked Teeth - Dr. Peek has seen, photographed, and spoken on every type of cracked or fractured tooth. He is the expert and will explain every possible outcome and show you what your tooth looks like with pictures so that you, the patient, can make an informed decision.
Why Choose An Endodontist?
Dr. Peek just does root canals; all day every day. He is a root canal specialist. No matter who your general dentists is, the patient always has the right to request treatment from a specialist. Dr. Peek loves what he does and is passionate about making sure you understand the service he provides.
CBCT – Cone Beam Computed Tomography - A CBCT is a machine that takes several x-rays as it rotates around your head. A computer then puts these images together into a 3D model. Dr. Peek agrees with the AAE [American Association of Endodontics] that they “should not be used routinely for endodontic diagnosis or for screening purposes”. If for some reason Dr. Peek is unable to make a clear diagnosis with conventional x-rays, he may recommend a 3D image to be taken in his office with the new Carestream 8100 3D. Doing so will help him accurately explain the nature of your dental symptoms. At Eastern Iowa Endodontics, CBCT scans are FREE if indicated prior to or during treatment. We do not charge an additional fee for a CBCT scan.
Microscopes - Dr. Peek has a microscope in each of his operatories along with a camera mounted directly to the lens allowing him to take pictures of what he sees inside your tooth. These pictures enable him to communicate clearly with your general dentist and show you, the patient, exactly what is going on with your tooth.
Modern Equipment - Dr. Peek has the newest A-dec 500 chairs that provide you, that patient, with more comfort than any other dental chair available. Using pressure mapping science, the cushioning uniquely reduces pressure points and provides comfortable support across your entire body. He also has the new LED dental lights that have a high color rendering index letting him see colors more accurately for better tissue diagnosis. The LED light specifically provides 30,000 lux, the highest level of illumination recommended by dental operatory ergonomic specialists.
