Apple sausage stuffing

Looking to switch up the stuffing this year? We have a savory and slightly sweet recipe that’s not only a crowd pleaser, it compliments the star of the show, the turkey, oh so nicely. This Sausage Apple Sage Stuffing is a hearty Thanksgiving day option, or can be an everyday side dish. Enjoy!

Apple, Sage & Sausage Stuffing

4 Tbsp. butter
3 ribs celery, chopped
1 yellow onion, chopped
4 turkey sausages, casings removed
3 tart apples, chopped
1 loaf whole grain bread, cut into cups (about 8 cups)
2 Tbsp. fresh sage, finely chopped
1 large egg
2 cups low sodium chicken or turkey stock
Dash coarse salt and ground black pepper, to taste

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add celery and onion; cook until soft, about 4-5 minutes. Add sausage and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. Add apples and continue to cook until soft, about 4-5 minutes. Stir in egg, bread cubes and sage and mix until combined. Add chicken stock and season with salt and pepper.

2. Transfer mixture to a greased baking dish. Place in the oven and cook for 20-25 minutes, until top is browned. If stuffing turkey, place in cavity and cook turkey until internal temperature reaches 165 degrees.
