The holidays have a way of adding clutter to every room in the house, so there may be no better time than the present to streamline your stuff and get organized in the New Year.
Each year, we acquire so many new things. If we're not removing items, we'll soon find ourselves with stuffed cabinets and jammed drawers. Clearing clutter not only helps make your home look nicer, it can make you feel better.
Start with an area of your home that really bothers you. Maybe it's the junk drawer in the kitchen or your bedroom closet. Then, work your way room by room deciding what can be donated, sold or thrown away.
If your bedroom closet is packed to the brim, try the hanger trick. Each time you wear a piece of clothing, put it back on the hanger and hook it backwards. After a year, you'll be able to see what you wore and what just hung there.
Consider taking the 12-12-12 challenge. Locate 12 items to throw away, 12 items to donate and 12 to be returned to their proper home. Do this each month.
Finally, invest in some pretty baskets or containers to store away toys and other miscellaneous items.
