Create your own air fresheners

Need to battle some not-so-fresh smells around the home? Here are some ideas for you that won't break the bank.

1) For your vacuum, try squeezing a little lemon juice right into the bag before sweeping.

2) For a spritzer, combine vanilla, almond or any other extract with a cup of water and spritz with a spray bottle.

3) Try using vinegar. Put a bowl of it in the kitchen or bathroom and let it sit for a few hours. Once the vinegar smell is gone, the other odors will be too.

4) Make your own simmering potpourri. For a fruity, fresh smell, cut up a lemon and orange and add it to a pot of water along with a few cinnamon sticks, bay leaves and whole cloves over low heat. For a spicy scent, combine cinnamon sticks, broken into small pieces, an ounce of whole cloves and an ounce of allspice. Simmer a spoonful at a time in a half cup of water.
