Having a miscarriage is a very traumatic experience for an expecting couple.
People may automatically associate anything pregnancy-related with women – but for men, the experience of losing a baby can be just as devastating.
Unfortunately, while men are offering emotional support to their partner, who may also be experiencing physical pain… they may not be reaching out for the support they need.
Men and women tend to experience grief in different ways. Women may grieve more openly and look for support from friends and family. But men tend to keep their feelings bottled up.
According to the Center For Loss, men who deny or repress their feelings of grief may suffer long-term problems, including depression and anxiety.
Couples are encouraged to talk together about how they’re feeling, and be supportive to each other.
Men may also find it helpful to talk to a therapist, pastor or a good friend.
