According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, only 44% of teenagers are getting their license within 12 months of the minimum age of licensing in their state, and about half are licensed before their 18th birthday.
Two decades ago, two-thirds of teens were licensed by the time they turned 18. Many schools are no longer offering driver's education, which has led to the reduction in teens getting licensed right away.
