Throw a birthday party without throwing your budget

Want your kid's birthday party to be a fun experience, but don't want to take out a loan to finance it? Here are some party ideas on a dime from the birthday party experts at Box of Balloons:

  1. Pick a theme. It's much easier to stay on track once you have a theme and colors in mind.
  2. Select a project for the kids. A project not only keeps the kids in attendance entertained, it can minimize the mess you'll have to clean up later by keeping them on task. And the project can go along with your party's theme. For example, if your child is having an art party, each child can decorate a blank cupcake.
  3. Don't forget the games! There are free printables everywhere offering fun party games. Make your own bingo cards, crossword puzzles, word scrambles and more.
  4. Go light on party favors. What did you do with the last bag of party favors your child brought home? Keep that in mind before spending money on a bunch of small, throw away items. If you feel like party favors are a necessity, consider practical items that can be used or consumed.
