Kids today have so many luxuries. Smart phones, video games, fashionable clothes and so much more. It can be really difficult to keep them humble and grateful for everything they have, especially the things that matter most.
But Dannielle Oestreich is making sure her kids appreciate the little things in life.
"One of the most important things we do with our kids is teaching them to spend their time helping others," Danielle says.
She wants to make sure her kids appreciate everything life has to offer, and volunteering has become a common thread in their household.
"You'd be surprised at how many activities there are to get involved in with your kiddos. Through your church, through your school or anything."
Dannielle says it's best to choose something that's important to your family.
Another way the Oestreich family helps others is through their organization, Cards for Seniors.
"We make handmade Grandparents Day, Veterans Day and Christmas cards for home-bound and lonely seniors in our community."
Dannielle says her kids have learned to empathize with others, help those in need and be grateful.
To help remind her and her family all they have to be grateful for, they write in their Family Happiness Journal every night before bed. Each member of the family describes something good that happened to them that day or something they're thankful for.
"It opens up a whole new world, and I know it has for our family. Just being grateful that we have those things that a lot of people don't have."
