Pitt Community College

Since opening in 1961, Pitt Community College has been educating and empowering people for success through a diverse selection of hands-on training programs and by offering the quality instruction, learning resources and technology necessary for students to build solid foundations for whatever career paths they choose.

It is PCC's mission to make a college education affordable and barrier-free. In-state residents pay low tuition and fees, and the college offers financial aid in the form of grants, scholarships and loans to help those in financial need. PCC also offers childcare services, evening and weekend classes, and online classes to accommodate our students' busy schedules.

Prospective students are encouraged to visit the PCC campus or the college website, www.pittcc.edu, to learn more.

Pitt Community College FAQ

Q: How do I get started at Pitt Community College?
A: You must first fill out an admissions application. You may do this online through our website, or you may go to the Counseling area located in the Craig F. Goess Student Center and talk with a counselor.
Q: Do I have to take the placement test?
A: Students must take the placement test UNLESS they fit into one of the following 3 categories of exceptions:

1. If a student has taken the ASSET, COMPASS, or ACCUPLACER at another college within the last 3 years, those scores can be sent to PCC and used for course placement.

2. If a student has taken college transferable English and math courses at another college and scored a "C" or higher, their transcript verifying these courses would exempt them from the test.

3. If a student has taken the SAT or ACT and scored a minimum score, they may be exempt from the English and/or math placement tests. Minimum scores are 500+ on English or Math sections of the SAT; 20+ on the ACT English test; or 23+ on the ACT math test. Students must bring copies of their test scores to the Placement Testing Office.

The Placement Testing Office is located on the second floor of the Ed and Joan Warren Building.
Q: How do I register for classes?
A: Most students will be assigned an advisor after they submit their application. It is highly recommended that the student meet with their advisor prior to registering for classes. Students can register online during Priority Registration or on-campus during Walk-in Registration.
Q: How do I pay for my classes?
A: You must pay for the classes you registered for during Priority Registration or Walk-in Registration by the deadline and time listed on the Schedule of Dates on the Web. Otherwise, your schedule will be purged. You may use a credit card to pay for your tuition and fees on the Web or at the Cashier's Office in the Goess Student Center. Payments by check, cash, or money order must be paid at the Cashier's Office (a picture ID is required with all checks). If financial aid is received, your tuition will be deducted from your award.
Q: Where is the bookstore located and what are its hours?
A: The bookstore is located in the Vernon White building. The normal operating hours are 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday-Friday. Special operating hours occur during pre/post registration periods.
