We build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place
Girl Scouts is the largest girl-led organization in the world with more than 2 million girls nationwide and 15,000 girls in eastern Iowa and western Illinois. The Girl Scout program provides girls of varying backgrounds and abilities the opportunity to build their confidence, gain new skills, and change the world. To deliver this program we need volunteers to assist with various programs, lead troops, and be role models for girls.
The Girl Scout program focuses on the core initiatives of Entrepreneurship, Outdoors, Life Skills, and Leadership. We focus programming to create girls who are self-sufficient, courageous, and ready to tackle what’s ahead.
Giving back to the community is a focus of Girl Scouts. Girls are doing everything from creating libraries within homeless shelters to creating toys for pets in animal shelters. Girl Scouts use their leadership skills to identify problems within their community and create solutions to make the world a better place.
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
Girl Scout Promise
On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
I will do my best to be:
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
respect myself and others,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.
Girls can join Girl Scouts at different grade levels:
- Girl Scout Daisies (Grades K-1)
- Girl Scout Brownies (Grades 2-3)
- Girl Scout Juniors (Grades 4-5)
- Girl Scout Cadettes (Grades 6-8)
- Girl Scout Seniors (Grades 9-10)
- Girl Scout Ambassadors (Grades 11-12)
- Girl Scout Juliettes (Grades 1-12; non-troop affiliated)
Each troop raises its own funds for the activities it plans through troop dues, money-earning activities, and the product sales programs.
Girl Scouts may also choose to purchase uniforms, insignia, and books to enhance their Girl Scouting experience at a Girl Scout retail shop or online: http://www.GirlScoutsToday.org/Shop
We welcome adults to join us by speaking at an event, volunteering in a troop, -- even reconnecting as an alumnae.
And we love people who simply say, "I believe in the Girl Scout mission."
