Meet Dr. Milligan

Dr. Milligan, Surgical & Medical Training

Dr. Milligan, a Board Certified General Surgeon, received his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. He completed his General Surgery Residency at the University of Tennessee where he received numerous awards during his residency, including the Scott Frame Trauma scholarship award given to a Junior Surgical Resident who exemplifies the values and work ethic of the trauma service as voted upon by the trauma staff surgeons. He also received the Laparoscopic Surgeons Resident Achievement Award, given to the Chief Resident with the most advanced laparoscopic skills.

After completing his surgical residency, Dr. Milligan went to Fresno, California to receive additional training from Dr. Frederick Elmore M.D., founder of the Elmore Medical Vein & Laser Treatment Center. Upon completion of this training, Dr. Milligan began treating venous disease in December of 2010.  Read more about Dr. Milligan here!

Understanding Venous Disease

More than 30 million Americans suffer from vein disease and symptoms such as painful legs, varicose veins, or a more serious form of venous disease: Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI). Although the visible signs of vein disease are often looked at as merely a cosmetic issue, it is a progressive disease in which symptoms often worsen over time. Vein disease can negatively affect your quality of life if left untreated.

Common symptoms include (see below for more detailed descriptions of these symptoms):

  • Varicose veins
  • Leg or ankle swelling, worse at the end of the day
  • Leg pain, aching, or cramping
  • Leg heaviness and fatigue
  • Restless legs
  • Burning or itching of the skin
  • Skin color and/or texture changes
  • Lower leg ulcers
