diaperLove, a non-profit organization, exists to provide diapers to families in need. We distribute directly to families in need, as well as through nonprofit organizations that serve children. The need is critical, constant and ongoing. Our mission? Changing diapers. Changing lives.

why diapers?

For growing numbers of families caught in personal or economic crisis, and natural disasters, a supply of disposable diapers is an ongoing critical need that is unrecognized and unmet. There are wonderful organizations that feed, clothe, heal and house children, but a major void exists in meeting the basic, fundamental, hygienic need for an adequate supply of diapers. In fact, diapers cannot be purchased with government programs such as Food Stamps or WIC. Children cannot be left at a daycare without a supply of diapers, creating a paradoxical situation for parents trying to work or go to school to better their families’ lives.

why not cloth?

In the communities diaperLove serves, cloth diapers are not a realistic solution. Parents who cannot afford diapers may not have easy access to a washing machine, or the resources to support hygienically washing diapers, or the financial means or transportation to take extra loads of diapers to laundromats, most of which prohibit washing soiled diapers for health and sanitation reasons. Most day care centers do not accept cloth diapers — one more barrier for parents working, in school, or in job training. Our best solution to help the most children is disposable diapers.

diaper facts:

  • A baby uses an average of 12 per day; toddlers an average of 8 per day.
  • An adequate supply of diapers can cost over $100/month.
  • Safety-net programs, such as the Food Stamp Program and WIC do not cover the cost of diapers. Cash assistance to help a family afford what Food Stamps do not cover is very limited and difficult to qualify for.
  • A daily supply of disposable diapers is required by most licensed day care centers, including free and subsidized childcare. Without diapers, parents cannot leave a child to go to work, school or train for a job.
  • Diapers cost more at an inner-city corner drugstore or convenience store than at discount chain stores or online.
  • Wet, unhappy babies are crying babies, leading to additional emotional stress for the caregiver, along with health issues and emotional distress for the baby.
