I lost any chance at Father of the Year this morning.
I know -- I probably was out of the running a few hours into January 1 anyway.
But let me give you the latest example.
Before work, I took my son to Kid's Campus, a daycare of sorts run by the school.
At check-in I was asked, 'What type of lunch?'
As usual on Friday's, I replied, "Hot."
But since this was the last day for the summer program, they said they weren't serving lunch.
I had missed the notice earlier that week. My son looked up at me -- with the what-am-I-supposed-to-eat-for-lunch-now kind of a look.
This place is nowhere near my house so I had to think.
Drug store on the corner. Lunchables!
Throw in a water -- snack.
We are set. Proud of myself, I returned to the school.
Then I realize, I should have bought a brown bag or something because all I had was the plastic bag.
I tied it in a knot and thankfully, had a Sharpie with me so I wrote his name on the side of it.
It was classy.
By the way, the store clerk said a few other parents did the same thing that morning. They must have forgotten too.
I guess they're off the award list as well.
