A Little Less Like Tarzan, a Little More Like George

Last week we bought some new curtains for Elly’s playroom to give the room a little more style. Elly decided she wanted to swing on the curtains and I would be too distracted to stop her as I was setting them up.

Elly pushed her stool over to her play kitchen and climbed on top of the stove part. She then stood up and made a lunging leap for the curtain. Instead of swinging, the curtain detached from the wall and Elly face planted in her toy box.

My first thought was she really hurt herself, but she didn’t cry or lose consciousness; she laid face-down, defeated in her toy box. Could it be that Elly was embarrassed and realized that she made a poor decision? I don’t think 19-month-olds get embarrassed easily, but this seemed to be an exception.

Her mother and I got a good laugh out of Elly’s flop before we decided to rescue her from the toy box. Since the incident she hasn’t pulled on any of our curtains.
