Here I go again. I'm going to get philosophical. When I started this blog, I thought it would center around managing the details of life. I will return to that next time, but for now, it's back to being a little more thought-provoking! I was at my son's basketball game this past weekend. For several weeks, I've watched him make great defensive plays, and get some great rebounds. He's really working hard out there, and I'm proud of him! But I know he's been wanting to make a nice, outside shot from the floor.

For several games, he's just missed the hoop by a few inches, or the ball has bounced off the rim. On Sunday, I was hoping he would make that basket. I thought to myself, "This is going to be the day". I watched, and he again made some great plays, but no basket. Then, about half way through the game, the moment arrived. He caught the ball and quickly put it up. It swished. It was a thing of beauty. However, I was surprised by how quickly the moment came and went. And, I noticed that my son didn't take much time to celebrate (which I thought he would do).

Later, my son told me he didn't even know the ball went through the hoop. He was thrilled to find out, though! What hit me about this experience was how quickly the best moments fly by. You have to be ready for them, and watchful. My wedding day was over in the blink of an eye. I can remember waiting for our kids to be born. Those moments came, and were over. It's amazing how my own childhood seemed to last forever, but now is history.

The point I'm making here is we all need to be on alert for the great moments. Be on your toes! Great moments are going to happen, but be ready to savor them, because they can be fleeting. Thank goodness we have memories to sustain us. What is a moment that you anticipated for weeks or months, and then was shocked by how quickly it passed?
