Many of us are thinking of how we can better our lives in the new year. If we're moms, our goals of enrichment are for the entire family. This year, while planning new year resolutions, why not consider the whole family? There are simple things we can do to make all of our lives better - and getting everyone involves holds us all accountable.
One thing we can resolve to do is have more family meals together. We live such busy lifestyles that something as seemingly simple as sitting down together to break bread is becoming a rarity! Try to have dinner together as a family as many nights as possible.
Studies have shown that there are several benefits to having a meal with the whole family. Kids are more likely to stay out of trouble and can talk about their day, giving mom and dad a chance to discuss any issues or problems and come up with solutions.
Another common resolution is to get more active. An effective and fun way to get the whole family more active is to take a walk after your family dinner. Even a short walk is enough to keep you healthy. You can also play a game of tag or catch in the yard, go for a bike ride, or get a family gym membership to keep your fitness goals in check.
Today we are so involved in electronics that giving up screen time for a few hours a day would be a welcome reprieve. Resolve to substitute watching TV and playing on the computer for board games, book reading or playing together as a family.
Most new years resolutions aren't kept, but with a little effort we can resolve to become healthier together.
