The traditions of the holiday season are filled with many indulgences. From the special meals we prepare, the gifts we exchange and time spent with family and friends, it’s a time of celebration.

Our appetite for sampling all the offerings is insatiable. So how do we prepare ourselves, and guests, to savor it all without feeling as though we’re over-indulging and being wasteful?

To help us enjoy the decadence of the season, one of America’s premier restaurateurs, wine connoisseur and author, Joe Bastianich best known for his role as a judge on FOX’s MasterChef, talks about creative ways to sample and experience all the trimmings and more in the video below:

Joe Bastianich is best known for his role as a judge on FOX’s reality TV hit MasterChef, celebrating its upcoming fifth season, where he uses his know-how for deciphering culinary talent to search from among thousands of amateur home cooks to find America’s next MasterChef. In 2010 the trio teamed up with Italian retail pioneer Oscar Farinetti to bring Eataly, the world’s largest Italian artisanal marketplace to New York.

Considered to be America's foremost authority on Italian wine, he owns and operates three wineries in Italy.

He is an accomplished author whose passion for the culinary arts has been recognized with professional awards from Bon Appétit magazine and the James Beard Foundation.
