My goodness, have we been busy. The steamy, sweltering summer has seeped into our bones and it seems there is always something to do. Dirt to rummage through outside, skin to soak up the simmering sun rays, sweat to swipe from our foreheads. There are projects to do in the house. Deals to rummage through in air conditioned stores. Stinky boys to dunk in bubble baths. Overall, there is just a lot of enjoying to do.
Teeber is enjoying his very own gymnastics class every Wednesday. Bub is still very much enjoying his gymnastics class every Monday. Tom is trying to enjoy long and demanding hours at work and I am learning to truly enjoy balancing all of this.
Time always speeds up in the summer. It's a mix of how much I adore summer and all of the things tingling at our fingertips for us to do that seems to speed up these 3 blissful but heated months. But even in the speed of summer, we still find time to enjoy a sizzling bowl of popcorn and a cartoon before bedtime. Sigh, I love summer.
Sunday we had a housewarming party to break in our new house. Teebs was unnaturally subdued and wrapped around my hip, and Bub was remarkably bold and confident, pleased to run around our packed house and play intently with his brand new neighbor friend. It was a wonderful, wonderful night.
And tonight, I had a subtle little evening to soak up my Teebs. Just him and I. He ate an apple.
It sounds simple doesn't it? He ate an apple. But with that summer spin, anything is beautiful. Anything is a photo shoot. Anything is art. And ironically? Anything is slow.
In this whirlwind of mesmerizing months, there are these remarkable, iconic moments of stillness. Like Teebs, eating an apple.
And really, I think that's why I love summer so much. The warmth is amazing and the sun is beyond rejuvenating, but it's those surprise moments of stillness that pop up out of nowhere...that is what really gets me. That, and of course, surprise moments of stillness are always infinitely better in the middle of a beam of July sun peaking through the window.
Apples, summer, sweating, shopping, parties, and savoring the slowly simmered moments that bubble up to the surface just every so often. This is what we've been up to, and it's not much, but we plan on keeping it up.
