Firecracker Pretzels

This article, entitled "Firecracker Pretzels," comes from MomsEveryday contributor Cathy B.

If you go online and look at the prices for a dozen chocolate covered pretzels on a gourmet website, I guarantee you will be surprised how expensive they are!

They start at about $25.00/dozen and go up from there. These homemade ones are a lot more affordable than that. I used a 12-ounce bag of pretzel rods (which had a little over 24 rods) and a 12-ounce bag of semi-sweet chocolate mini morsels. The grand total for the two bags together came to less than $4.00. You can buy the “house” brand of sprinkles at your favorite grocery store or at your local dollar store. To make them yourself is certainly more cost efficient and you can “custom” make them to your family’s specifications (and for any holiday)!!

To make one dozen chocolate covered pretzels, use half of the 12-ounce bag of morsels which is about one cup. Use the entire bag to make two dozen. Pour the morsels into a microwaveable bowl and start melting them by starting with one minute and keep adding more time in 20 second intervals until the chocolate is smooth and can be stirred with a spoon. Pour the melted chocolate over each rod, with the spoon, covering about ½- ¾ of the rod. Add sprinkles, if desired and put on a piece of wax paper. Put in fridge about 1 hour or until the chocolate gets hard.
