Taming the Beast: A Story of a Man and His Daughter’s Scraggly Head of Hair

I love my little girl. She wakes up each and every morning with a huge smile on her face. When we pluck her from her crib she gives us a hug and laughs. Its a pretty amazing way to begin the day. One thing that accompanies her sweet smile and laugh is a head full of unkempt hair that sticks up uncontrollably at several different angles. Miss Julia’s hair is thin and fine like her momma’s side of the family. After we get her dressed we attempt to get her hair to lie down. I usually employ water and a brush but I have to be careful. If I use too much water she ends up looking like a drowned weasel. If I use too little wispy bits of hair will continue to circle her head.

Its a pretty thin line between success and failure. Even when we do get her hair to relent the next tasks is to get a bow in there. She usually squirms around and twists her head. If you tap her leg so she stops wiggling she will cry gigantic crocodile tears and wail like she was hit with a branding iron. I usually employ my ACC speed and get the bow in there as fast as possible.

If I am lucky the bow will remain in her hair until we reach Miss Cherrie’s house. Usually she pulls it out somewhere between her bedroom and the front door. Thankfully, Mason is becoming both a pretty good tattle-tail and bow finder. “Sissy pulled her bow out!” or “Sissy’s trying to eat her bow!” or my favorite, “Sissy, no! The potty is yucky!” I don’t want to rush my little girl to grow up, but I will be happy when she is able to do her own hair.
