School is back in session and we have a great science project idea that's sure to put your child to the head of the class. It's an easy, GREEN soda bottle rainforest!
Tropical rainforests are known as the jewels of our planet, so why not bring a little bit of its beauty into your home?

Fill the base with rocks to help with drainage.

Next, add a sprinkle of activated charcoal or carbon, which can be found at pet stores and garden supply stores. Your carbon will filter and purify the water while keeping your terrarium from getting smelly.

The next layer will need to keep the soil from settling down into the rocks. Spanish moss works well, but so do pistachio shells!

Above your barrier, fill the rest of the soda bottle base with soil leaving about a half inch of space at the top. Now for the fun part: adding your plants! Since we're making a tropical rainforest, be sure to select small tropical plants with similar sun and watering requirements.

Add a little moss above your soil and water your rainforest then cover your project with the top part of your soda bottle.
