Popcorn and a Movie

This article, entitled Popcorn and a movie comes from Alison at thishomemadelife.com

Whew, it’s Friday! At our house we not only look forward to Friday because it’s the end of the school week, but also because it’s movie night.

Suggestions for our Friday flick start flying around on Thursday afternoon and by the time the boys are home from school we usually have it narrowed down to two or three. At that point the discussion commences, it usually includes some compromise, argument and pouting before finally agreeing on a decision. I have to say their picks usually aren’t too bad.

Once the movie is decided on the next question is always, ‘what are you making for us to eat while we watch the movie?’ Honestly, I think that’s half the fun for them. Eating and watching a movie at the same time. We spread out a couple of big, old quilts to cover the floor and set up camp for the evening. Usually our meal involves some sort of pizza (either homemade or ordered) and of course popcorn.

A couple of years ago I read an article about all the junk that is in microwave popcorn. The kids were eating so much of it for snacks that I thought there had to be something better. So, I went searching and found this super easy solution…brown bag popcorn.

All you need are some brown lunch sacks and popcorn. Put 1/4 cup of the popcorn seed in the bag. Fold over the top of the bag 2-3 times and put it folded side down in the microwave. Then just hit the popcorn setting on the microwave and that’s it. Cheap and easy. Best part is you can make it different for everyone by adding their favorite toppings. Sometimes we dump it in a bowl adding some butter and salt. Other times we put each boys’ name on their sack and add their favorite M&Ms. It’s particularly good in the fall with candy corn and peanuts.

Have a good weekend! We are looking forward to some good family time around here!
