Chances are, if you’re going to drink a bit too much, this is the time of year you’ll do so. There is no proven cure for treating or preventing a hangover except to not drink.
According to the Mayo Clinic, “drinking large amounts of alcohol can cause dehydration, low-blood sugar, digestive irritation and disturbed sleep-all factors that lead to hangover symptoms. The ONLY sure way to prevent a hangover is to drink in moderation or not at all. Moderate drinking is considered 2 drinks a day if you’re a man and 1 drink a day if you’re a woman. A drink is defined as 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof distilled wines.”
And while there is no cure, here are some suggestions on how to help prevent a hangover or treat it the next day. And even though I like doing my research (taste-testing especially), I couldn’t test each of these suggestions AND function for the month!
You might notice some of these suggestions are similar and some contradict each other…some might work for one person and not others, and vice-versa.
