Mustard is one of the oldest spices, dating back 3000 years. Mustard has been used, since ancient times, as a medicine and an aliment. Combining it with warm water has the consequence of increasing arterial pressure and stimulating blood circulation. At the same time, mustard has anti-inflammatory properties.
I first learned about using mustard in a detoxifying bath from Ashley English in her column, Small Measures, on Design Sponge. I loved the fact that its a simple and natural way to detox and immediately had to try it myself. I ended up changing the recipe a little to accommodate what I had lying around. Here's what I came up with:
2/3 C Mustard seed (ground)
3 C Epsom salt
10 drops of Eucalyptus oil
Mix ingredients together and store in an air tight container. Use several scoops in a warm bath.
