A Time To Give Thanks For What We HAVE

Are you one of those that makes a resolution every year to lose weight and get healthy once and for all, only to quit by the end of February…again?! Or maybe you have made some progress but are nowhere near your goal you had set for yourself. How much of the year do we spend criticizing our own bodies, wishing we had six pack abs, a smaller butt and thighs that don’t rub together when we walk, or for the muffin top to just go away? It’s easy to look in the mirror and say “I want my body to look like so & so’s” or “If only I could be a size 2.”

Maybe we should switch our focus to what we do have at this point, or what we have accomplished at this point and time and be thankful for that.

So what is it that you do have that you’re thankful for? Maybe it’s that you’ve lost some weight or body fat and have managed to maintain it for a period of time. Or overall you’re healthy enough that you can walk and do normal activities, where before you couldn’t. Or maybe it’s just being able to get out of bed and not be in a ton of pain. How about just having the ability to breath easily, something so many of us take for granted! So when we start to think about it, many of us really do have a lot to be thankful for when it comes to our health.

However if you’re still struggling to get to the end of your goal, keep the big picture in mind. Going through struggles will make you appreciate what you have accomplished so much more than if it were a piece of cake to get there. And remember, when it comes to health and fitness, it’s a journey, not a destination. Embrace your struggles and be proud of how far you’ve come. Be thankful for what you HAVE. Happy Thanksgiving!
