Let’s face it: the Internet is huge. And there is nothing more frustrating than having to wade through pages and pages of Internet search results when you are looking for something. Sometimes you just want someone to hold your hand and lead you to the good stuff – or in this case, the most relevant results. StumbleUpon can do all that and more.
StumbleUpon is an online directory that helps you find new things on the web by narrowing down pages and pages of results you would usually get for any given search. Pages you view in any category have been recommended to you because they have been picked by either your friends or by people with interests similar to your own. Then, you have the option to rate a site by giving it a thumbs up or thumbs down, and that rating is shared with others. The more you use it and add your two cents, the more you get out of it!
Here’s how to get started: after you sign up for free, you can then search for your friends that are using StumbleUpon through your email, Facebook, or Twitter or just start searching. You’ll see a list of categories to get started with. I clicked on Parenting and then clicked “Stumble” at the top of the page. I was taken to site after site all about parenting, some of which I had not even heard of before!
You can also download the StumbleUpon App for your iPhone, iPad, or Android device, so you can search for sites from anywhere. Share anything you like with your friends through email, Facebook, or Twitter, and everything you do on your device will sync with your account on the Internet.
