MINE!

It’s official, we have entered the age of “MINE”. Everything belongs to my daughter; it doesn’t seem to matter whether it’s a bag of cookies or bag of dirty laundry. I don’t know why I assumed we learn to be selfish over time, it’s clear to me now that we are born with a hoarders mentality. Parents have to thanklessly teach their children how to share and be kind to others. If they don’t learn these valuable lessons they won’t make friends and learn how to interact with others. So even though it seems easier to just say “fine, it’s yours…everything is yours!” I realize my daughter doesn’t pick up on my sarcasm. Instead I have to dig deep to find patience and remind my sweet little girl that not everything belongs to her. “Sharing is caring”, and hopefully if I say it enough one day it will sink in. For now I will reluctantly share my jewelry, make-up, shoes, ice cream, chocolate, cookies, sushi (all my favorite things) even though deep down I want to tell her “MINE”!
