Did you know that cleats not only help you run faster in softball, but help you perform amazing arabesque and perfect pirouettes on the ball field?!?! I don’t know about you, but I had no idea cleats were the ideal shoes for dancing. This “new” truth is something we learned last night during softball practice.
Bug has started a new adventure. She is officially playing 6 & Under Fall League Softball (oh...goodness help us all!). After watching several of her friends play softball in the spring and practicing most of the summer, we decided to let Bug try it (she actually begged us to play). We agreed only because we knew the fall season was shorter and it would give her a team sport experience. Oh….boy we better fasten our seatbelts for this adventure!
Bug has been extremely excited about softball and practice. We bought her equipment several weeks ago and immediately she took a liking to the cleats. One day she wore her cleats to the grocery and library (what can I say, you pick your battles). Last night, she officially wore them for practice.
We didn’t know what to expect at practice. Needless to say, we were pleasantly surprised with how Bug listened and followed instructions. She followed the older girls very well, but there were a few hiccups along the way. She did a few arabesque and pirouettes in the in field (I am just glad she didn’t play in the dirt). I warned her coach that she might dance in the field. What do you know, I was right!!! Bug would also watch a ball roll right by her and never even attempt to go get it. She would look at one of the other girls like, “you going to get that?”. Probably, the best part of last night, was watching Bug hit the ball and just stand there. She prefers to admire the ball as it rolls across the field. Everyone is yelling run and Bug is just content to watch her ball go!!! Eventually, she would come back to softball reality and run.
Here are a few pictures that I snapped last night!

I love that Bug is getting to experience playing on a team! I love that she has a great coach that is about teaching fundamentals, encouragement, and having a ton of fun! I can’t wait for her to experience her first game. If you know Bug very well at all, you know it will be nothing short of comical. I am super proud of her willingness to learn a new sport and her hard work. I think we are going to have a great fall ball season (I just hope we can keep the arabesque and pirouettes to a minimum).
