What am I, Chopped Liver?!?!

I love to see the relationship that Ben (my husband) and Bug (my daughter) have. Ben has always been an incredibly hands-on dad (which I am soooo thankful for)! When Bug was born, he jumped right in to change diapers and help with late night feedings. Now that Bug is older, they play ball in the front yard and ride bikes together. He has even been a good sport about Halloween. Bug was Dorothy one year and Ben was the scarecrow! From the beginning, Bug has been a daddy’s girl (what can I say, so was I). I am grateful for their relationship, but now they are starting to gang up on me!!!

Here is a conversation we had on the way to church.

Bug: Mommy, you have 2 children (hmm…last time I checked I had 1)
Mommy: (a bit puzzled) Bug you know you are an only child, are you talking about Molly (our dog)?
Bug: (with a big grin) No mommy, daddy is a child too, daddy and I are both children.
Mommy: Really, Bug, well if you and daddy are children, am I a child too?
Bug: No, mommy you are just a mommy. (I thought Ben was going to fall out of his seat with laughter!)
Mommy: Man if I don’t feel like chopped liver. Bug, how old do you think daddy is?
Bug: Umm…he looks about 16.
Mommy: (I knew I shouldn’t have asked this question) Bug how old do you think mommy is.
Bug: Umm…you are older (which I am not). You are about 22.

At this point Ben and Bug are overcome with laughter and they are high-fiving! Ugh…I had to ask didn’t I! I loved seeing this interaction between them, but I am not enjoying this “ganging up on mom mentality”! I know I have many more years of this, but I don’t think I mind. I am just grateful to watch their relationship grow and change. The relationship between a dad and daughter is too precious!

Here is a picture of my two “children” or should I saw partners in crime that I love very much!

Any other mom feel ganged up on sometimes?!?!?
