Dancing Queen

I recently put my daughter in a dance class, which I enjoy watching immensely. It is a little like herding kittens.

The girls are so adorable in their little ballet outfits and some of them even seem to get the idea of the class. Then there is my kiddo who has no clue what is going on and is rolling on the floor while everyone else is twirling around the room.

The first day she did this I got a little frustrated because I wanted her to participate and immediately understand the etiquette of being in a class environment. Then I realized she’d never really been in a room with a teacher and other kids in a class where you have to listen and follow along. She had done day care a few times, but that’s about it.

I decided to lighten up and let her act however she was going to act, she would figure it out. She’s very smart and she will catch on that everyone is participating. After about the third class, she was getting more and more interested. She followed directions and chatted up the teacher. It’s definitely a hilarious and heart-warming experience that I am enjoying every minute of.

I’m glad to know that I don’t need to step in every time I see my daughter learning new things. Most of the sense of accomplishment comes from her achieving these lessons on her own. I am not signing her up for the NYC Ballet quite yet, but I do love to watch her progression from rolling on floor to skipping across the room.
