I was born and raised in Kansas City, but usually when I visit home with the kids, we're so busy with family and friends - we don't get to take advantage of the fun places I enjoyed when I was growing up.
That changed this summer when I got the chance to share the amusement park I enjoyed so much when I was a kid- with my little ones.
It has been years since I've walked the grounds at Worlds of Fun. But it feels like yesterday. I remember how excited my sister and I would be to spend the day there sometimes with family - other times with friends. The rides, the food and long lines - it was all part of the experience...and I was so happy to share it with the boys.
I think I was just as excited as they were. And while it did look a little different to my adult eyes, it brought the same excitement to my guys that it did to my and my sister so many years ago!
Their eyes lit up like Christmas trees when they saw the roller coasters and rides from the highway. And that enthusiasm stayed with us until we closed that park that night at 10 o'clock.
Planet Snoopy, which was not there when I was little, was a blast for them. They also loved the bumper cars, rides I didn't even think they'd have enough courage to get on - and of course the water logs!
But boys are a little different. They don't just take in the rides - like games, too. So they just had to try their had at a basketball free throw contest and ended up with five college basketballs - (that's a big deal for my guys! ) Before we knew it- it was getting dark. The park was lit up and of course - all the glow-in-the-dark keepsakes were on display. Yes - they left with a few souvenirs (just like we did when we were kids). That night was amazing and when we left, we knew we were going to do it all over again the next day at Oceans of Fun.
I know once we start taking trips to Disney World and begin to take more "elaborate" family vacations as they get older, Worlds of Fun probably won't rank high on their list of memorable family moments, but it does night now and for me - this trip always will. It was special.
And that park certainly lived up to its name that day!
We had a World of Fun!!
I hope you are enjoying the summer days with your family!!
Until Next Time,
Serese
