Does Pinterest Interest You?

We've all heard of social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. There is what's called a social bookmarking site that is growing in popularity. Pinterest is gaining new members and more content everyday. I've read that it is the third most popular site, in terms of the number of members. It appears to be most popular with adult women.

Judging by the way me and my friends use it, the pinboard-style photo sharing website is incredibly useful for cooking family dinners, making crafts with your kids and finding DIY home improvement projects.

I'll admit that it took me a while to "get it." I didn't understand at first. I thought, 'so you just look at the pictures?"

The answer: yes and no.

Pinterest is a way to discover, collect and share inspiration. You store ideas on boards. I have boards titled "Kids", "Products I Love", "Dinners", and others that appeal to me. I choose what I want to title my boards and I choose what I pin to them. When I need to figure out what I want to make for dinner at night, I go to the "Dinners" board for ideas. I've found a few recipes that my husband absolutely loves!

I love pinning ideas for meals, snacks and smoothies. I've also loved pinning things for activities with my kids, blogs about ways to teach them to be compassionate people and really creative organizational ideas for my house that make me say, "Why didn't I think of that?"

I found my recipes for Christmas dinner, Thanksgiving turkey and Sunday brunch on Pinterest. They've all been very successful! :) Check out my facebook page for the proof in pictures: https://www.facebook.com/MelanieBloom1011News

If you're planning a wedding, you can research dresses, pin them and compare later. If you're planning a birthday party, pin decorations, party favors, food, gifts, etc on a birthday board.

So how do you find things to pin?

When you sign in, if your Facebook friends have a Pinterest account, they'll show up. You'll also subscribe to other random people's feeds. As each person pins something, you see it. If you think it'd be a great idea to do with your kids, if it is a funny photo that makes you smile or if you want to cook it for breakfast the next day, then you pin it.

It can seem so huge and overwhelming at first. The easiest way to learn, like it is with many other things, is to just get on the website and play around. Give it a try!

Television networks, stores, businesses and other commerce-related companies are trying to find a niche on Pinterest. Personally, I steer clear of those. It isn't what I'm looking for from the website. That's what great about it. If it interests you, you follow it.

Happy pinning! Be sure to tell me about your favorites!
