The Evolution of Spring!

Whether you call it global warming or climate change, you have to admit: things are changing. I like to think of it as our climate evolution.

I've read several studies that show lilacs are leafing out and flowering earlier. The cherry blossom trees are blooming already in Washington D. C. In Japan, ginko treees are getting first leaves earlier and losing them later.

Bee species in North America are emerging ealier to keep pace with the flowers. Even the birds are reacting to the early spring, shifting the timing of their migrations! Insects are also emerging earlier than ever!

I know there are down sides to all of this. Big swings in our weather are unsettling (to say the least) especially when we see disturbing videos of a tornado or tsunami and the loss of lives.

Yes, it's hard on us and our enviroment. We will also probably lose some species of plants, birds, insects etc. over the years to come.

But I believe we will be forced to adapt. I'm no scientist; no expert on this subject - just an observer. An optimistic one too!

Life is all about change, isn't it?
