Lack of Respect
It was disgusting to see and hear. A group of middle school kids taunting and bullying a 68-year-old female school bus monitor! It was caught on tape and put on YouTube.
It was on all of the newscasts this morning with many people expressing outrage over the incident.
Some called it elder abuse. I call it disrespectul; shameful; disgraceful!
My first thought: what kind of kids would do something like that? What kind of enviroment are they growing up in? What kind of guidance are they being given at home?
Then again, why is this such a surprise? Disrespect seems to be part of our value system today.
Raising kids is no easy task but I really think we can all do a better job. It takes time and a whole lot of energy to raise well-adjusted, healthy, respectful children in our society.
We need to demonstrate in our words and deeds that respect is part of the foundation of our values. Our kids need us to lead by example!
