Catching up...

Time Travel

These days it seems like I'm in a time warp... boom it's Tuesday, then it's Sunday... the calendar page needs to be turned and as I turn around, I wonder, where is my baby and who is this little one walking around our house?

Confusing? Yeah. As I look back at Kanyon's 11 months it's a blur of busy and joy... maybe that's why they're called "boy"s...
busy + joy = boy.

I figured I'd update you on all that's been going on since my blog posts of the past... I owe ya that much for sticking with this blog! (smile)

UPDATES

Motorcycle momma

Remember when I wasn't sure if I should sell the motorcycle and use that money for a minivan, or if I should keep it to maintain some of my hobbies? I struggled for a long time, then one day in August it was like my motorcycle was screaming, "let's go for a ride! Just a quick one!" So I dusted off my helmet and hopped on for a quick ride around the block. It was like riding a bike as they say... but add in some awesome! My heart was a flutter and it felt so good I knew the answer was to keep the motorcycle, even if I only get to ride it around the block once a summer, it is worth it to get those juices flowing through my veins again!

Zzzzz's please

Since he was sleep trained at 9 months... Kanyon has been doing so awesome! He's getting 9 hours (plus many a nap) at a shot at night and mommy gets 7 hours now most nights! Yay! He goes down like clockwork and is just such a good boy. I'm so glad we waited until the time was right, but wow does that make a difference. He knows how to fall back asleep in the middle of the night and early morning too! So proud.

Made by mommy

When Kanyon started solids, I started cooking for him. We had a great few months of purees and he took to veggies like a duck to water! I had a great experience making all his food and going organic when possible. He's now moved on to finger foods and eats like his daddy! (loves man meals like meatloaf, etc).

He loves all veggies, isn't really into fruit and I couldn't be happier! If I ate like him, I'd be a lot healthier! I'm pretty proud of the fact that I've committed to making all his food and he's been getting breast milk since birth. Now it's time to start transitioning to the big year birthday when he can start having cow's milk. Mom's ready to retire the pump for a while!

I'm now trying to get Kanyon to eat more fruit. We've been getting by, but you'd think he'd gobble up bananas and such, but maybe I did too good of a job with introducing vegetables. His favorite is zucchini and he loves carrots too.

Intense emotions

This blog really poured my heart onto your screens and the update to this topic is that my heart continues to swell for kids in need. I can't believe the reaction I have now to stories of kids who are going through something difficult. I'd say I'm even more empathetic and have cried thousands of tears for kids since becoming a mom. It's like having a baby added millions of nerve endings to my heart... all geared toward protecting and helping kids. I've been fortunate enough to be able to help some kids in the community and all over the globe. I plan to continue to find ways to help so I feel like I can make a difference.

Crazy days

Life has not slowed down at all and coming off a weekend, you wonder where your hours go, except that you are living on baby time. Life revolves around naps, food and playtime. I haven't gotten much better at multi-tasking. You can only do so much and I know I put way too much pressure on myself to "do it all"... so there are many moments where a feeling of being overwhelmed gets the best of me. I have a supportive hubby who lets me get cranky every now and then and doesn't hold it against me. I do find that in my world a cluttered space equals a cluttered mind. I need to keep things as tidy as possible in order to feel like I have a handle on my to-do lists. Obviously, since Kanyon is a one man wrecking/clutter crew, his toys don't count in the tidy department! I just do what I can and try not to get too anxious about what's not getting done.

That said... remember when I was all gung ho to lose weight? Well, I manged to shave off 7 pounds which is awesome, but I've found a way to get all that back. It's one of the areas of my life that's taken a backseat. I hope to get back on that goal come the new year. My laundry also sits in baskets for weeks at a time. It is what it is. I did stay up after the boys went to bed last night to put it away. I felt so much better this morning!

I'm a work in progress... I'm sure all parents can identify! I just have to prioritize... if that means I live out of laundry baskets so Kanyon can have a nutritious meal that I've made with love... so be it. I am fine with that trade off. Don't get me wrong, there are times when I declare it "mommy time" so I can recharge.

Kanyon's latest and greatest

Our little boy started walking on Thanksgiving! 10 months old the little stinker! He's so proud of himself and I don't think I've seen him crawl more than a few feet since!

He loves to give kisses (air kisses) and his favorite new game is to point at everything and have us tell him what it is. Then we can ask him to point at "daddy" "kitty" "train" or whatever and he is so proud when he gets it right! He can pray and high five and play peek-a-boo and he LOVES to dance!

A few nights ago he said "moo" when reading a story and last night I got him to say "woof woof" (kind of close). He's great at saying grandma... which comes out "mmmm-ma" and he's been saying mama and dada for a while, but when he learns new words, we hear that less and less.

Needless to say we're so proud of our little boy. I can't believe he's almost 1!!! You all said it would go fast and you weren't kidding. I'm already planning for his birthday party and it just doesn't seem possible.

Thanks to all of you who have kept up with us! I love hearing from you and I've posted new pictures for you as well!

If you haven't "liked" my facebook page yet, you may have missed some videos of him too! I put lots of stuff on the Sarah Stokes WEAU 13 News facebook page! Facebook page.

Have a great holiday season! I plan to blog again before Christmas.
