"Super" Family

Trick or treat, who will we be? That's the question we faced this Halloween as my kids get older.

Every Halloween, our family picks a Halloween theme. Over the years, the kids have been:

1. A farmer and pig
2. A cowboy and an Indian
3. Spiderman and a spider
4. A football player and a cheerleader
5. Dracula and a little witch
6. Bam Bam and Pebbles
7. The Scarecrow and Glinda the good witch
8. The Mad Hatter and the Cheshire Cat

Usually, the themes come together pretty easily. But this year was slightly different. My son is now in middle school.

And when you're in middle school, you might be getting a little old for some of the "kiddie" costumes.

So after brainstorming and checking out family theme ideas online, we decided on superheroes! Jon is Clark Kent, transitioning to Superman (works well for a journalist). I am Wonder Woman (most moms are, lol). Olivia is Super Girl (perfect for her blond hair). And Jacob, well, he decided on Tony Stark (Iron Man). Jacob didn't want to dress in the full Iron Man suit, so the character of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) seemed to be a cool alternative.

And I must say, even with all the extra planning, this year's theme could be one of my favorites. Sometimes those creative or homemade costumes turn out to be the best.

I'd love to hear about your Halloween costuming ideas! It's one of my favorite times of the year. :)

Happy trick-or-treating!
