This article, entitled "Common Sense," comes from Pat Persaud, MomsEveryday blogger from Omaha, NE.
Incredible! A nine-year-old girl shaves her head to show her best friend with cancer support. In turn, the nine-year-old is expelled from school because a shaved head is against the rules!
I understand the need for rules and have told my kids many times rules are rules. But I also explain the use of common sense to them when it comes to making decisions.
It seems however, whether it’s school or the workplace, arbitrary rules are made to avoid using common sense! We see this time and time again.
What happened to common sense? Have we all become a little lazy when it comes to using sound judgment - finding a reasonable way to make good decisions? Shouldn't that be an important part of our children's education?
Anyhow, was relieved to hear the school board in the nine-year-old girl’s school district voted to reinstate her. Really? Shouldn't that decision have come from reasonable educators at her school before expulsion?
What do you think?
