Fireworks Safety

This article, entitled "Firworks Safety," comes from Liz Hayes, MomsEveryday correspondent from Central Wisconsin.

It's the 4th of July - a wonderful time to celebrate our independence and to do so with a bang. If fireworks are part of your family's celebration, here are some safety tips from the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

  • Find out if fireworks are legal where you live. If so, read and follow all warnings and instructions before you light up.
  • Do not allow children to play with or ignite fireworks.
  • Make sure other people are out of range before lighting fireworks.
  • Only light fireworks on a smooth, flat surface away from the house and flammable materials.
  • Keep a bucket of water handy in case of a malfunction or fire.
  • If a firework doesn't go off, it's a dud. Do not try to re-light.

We hope you'll enjoy your 4th of July celebration safely!
