Let me set the record straight. Just because I am the hostess of “Moms Everyday,” it does not make me an expert. I am not the perfect mom. I am not a super-mom. Far from it.
I think that many people think that because I am the ‘face’ of Moms Everyday, that I have ALL the answers to every parenting question or concern on earth. Ha! The truth is, with every interview I do, I am learning right along with all of YOU!
I was approached by a new dad a few days ago. He and his wife had just had a new baby girl. He was telling me how their baby seems to cry so much, and since I was the “Moms Everyday lady,” he figured I’d be able to offer them some ‘expert’ advice. Well, yes, I can offer advice from my own personal experiences, but I am certainly not an expert. I remember what it was like to be a new parent. My husband and I were completely clueless! We had no idea what we were doing. We learned as we went along. And it was reassuring to talk to other parents who had “been-there-done-that”…even if they didn’t have all the answers, either…but just listened and offered some words of encouragement.
I have four kids between the ages of 5 and 10, and I am still learning as I go. My first-born is now entering her ‘tween’ years, and there are many days that I wonder if I’m doing things “right.” Yes, I yell at my kids sometimes. Yes, I let them watch TV and play video games when I need a “break.” Yes, we go through the drive-thru at McDonald’s on occasion when we’re running in-between after-school activities. Yes, there are days that I want to lock myself in my bedroom and pull the covers over my head to escape for a few minutes. Yes, I make mistakes. I am not perfect. I just hope my kids realize that I am TRYING my very best and I love them with all my heart. I am just like many other moms out there---trying to be the best mom I can be and hoping I’m doing something right.
One thing I hope we can accomplish with our Moms Everyday show is that we can point you in the right direction so you can find others in our community who can offer you advice. We hope to connect you with other moms who can offer words of encouragement through our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/momseverydaywi And just remember---we’re all still learning as we go!
