If your family is like mine, reality TV shows have become part of your television viewing. I have to admit being a fan of The Voice. I love watching the show and enjoy the success of the participants.
I've also tuned in now and again to Dancing With the Stars! But that's about as far as I go. My kids however watch some ridiculous reality shows!
My 13-year-old loves Dance Moms - a show that features an overweight dance instructor who berates her students and their moms. The moms on that show, however, are silly caricatures.
My 16-year-old watches a show called Duck Dynasty. Now that's a show that I really can't watch! I think you have to be a teenage boy or hunter to appreciate that one!
I don't ban my kids from watching these shows. They're entertaining. But reality? Really? I don't buy that. Reality shows are supposed to be unscripted glimpses into ordinary lives. Most of these shows don't pass that definition!
My kids and I understand that. And as long as we keep reality in check, we'll probably keeping watching!
