Retro Cocktail

We just celebrated a big birthday at our house with a very cool cocktail! It's our latest kick this summer. Moscow Mules! Hee Haw!

The cocktail debuted in the 1940s and was originally served in copper mugs. The mugs and cocktail are back this summer!

I found the copper mule mugs at the local Sur La Table store but I imagine any local kitchen store would have them. You can also buy them online at

I would argue that the copper mug is essential for this drink. It not only makes a great presentation but the copper mug keeps your drink unbelievably chilled! On a hot day, it's an absolute must.

As for taste, I suppose that's subjective. The ginger beer is spicy and I also love that. Even found diet ginger beer! Cuts down on the sugar content in the soda.

Anyhow, it's a refreshing and hugely fun cocktail!

Here's the very simple recipe just in case you too want to enjoy this throwback.

Moscow Mules

  • 1 1/2 ounces of vodka
  • 1/2 cup ginger beer
  • 1/2 lime

Combine liquid ingredients into a copper mug with ice. (squeeze lime and leave in cup). Stir and enjoy.

These go down easily on a hot summer day - so be aware.
