Reviving Flowers

This article, entitled "Reviving Flowers," comes from MomsEveryday correspondent Liz Hayes.

Receiving flowers makes us feel special and they brighten up any room. But it's a shame when they wilt and fade away. Here are a few tips to prolong the life of your fresh bouquet.

  • Cut the stems under running water and at an angel to expose more stem surface. For most flowers, it's best to use lukewarm water, but bulb flowers prefer cold water.
  • Change the water every two days instead of adding more water to the vase.
  • Use the little packet that came with your bouquet. It's not only flower food, it also prevents bacteria from growing.
  • Keep your bouquet out of direct sunlight and away from fruit, which gives off a damaging gas.
