Tackling Summer Boredom

This article, entitled "Tackling Summer Boredom," comes from Whitney Scott, MomsEveryday correspondent from South Central Kentucky.

Mom…I’m bored! If these words are commonly uttered from your teenager’s lips – you’re not alone. With so much free time during the summer, your child may have a tough time making himself useful.

Here are some tips from parenting.org to keep your apathetic teenager engaged.

To keep your child interested and challenged, consider getting him or her involved in volunteering. Local organizations, churches, shelters and community centers are filled with programs in need of volunteers. Volunteering is a fulfilling experience and will look great on future job and college applications. They may even find a summer job while making a difference.

Summer employment will allow your teen to stay busy, earn money and learn responsibility. He or she can also try job shadowing for a day to get some experience in a field they’re interested in.
