This article, entitled "Taxes, Death and Menopause!" comes from Pat Persaud, MomsEveryday blogger from Omaha, NE.
There's an old saying that there are two things we can all count on: taxes and death. And, if you're a woman, add menopause to that list!
I'm going through that now and really haven't had many of the symptoms most women encounter. No hot flashes, not too many mood swings or anything like that. But I'm suddenly feeling one of the lesser known side effects: a frozen shoulder!
Seems my estrogen levels have dropped and since estrogen is considered the WD-40 for joints, my low levels may have led to limited movement in my left shoulder.
It just sort of crept up on me and along with time: tendonitis! I get a flinching shot of pain if I move my arm a certain way.
My doctor diagnosed this and put me on an anti-inflammatory medication. I'm also getting physical therapy three times a week and my problem should be resolved slowly but surely. That's what my physical therapist tells me. Then it's back to my doctor to figure out what's going on with my hormone levels!
I've never heard of frozen shoulder before but after talking to my mom, found out she had it too! Seems some of us are predisposed to this as well!
Menopause is not something I've talked to my mother about. I'm guessing many women don't have this talk with their moms either! But we should! I've learned many of us will experience similar hormonal changes in our bodies to our mothers.
It's really important. It's an experience I plan on sharing with my daughter too.
