The Disadvantage of White Bread

This article, entitled "The Disadvantage of White Bread," comes from Taryn Vanderford, MomsEveryday correspondent from Lincoln, NE.

Is white bread a staple at your dinner table? If so, it may be leading excess pounds for the whole family.

According to a new study, when white bread is a diet staple, you may be more likely to become overweight or obese than if you choose whole grain bread.

Participants in the study who ate white and whole grain breads were not at an increased risk for weight gain, but those who only reached for white bread and had two or more portions per day were 40% more likely to become overweight or obese than those who ate less than one portion of white bread per week.

Whole grain bread is considered healthier than white because of its complex carbohydrates, protein, additional nutrients and fiber.
